After, I Was an Untied Knot
After, I Was an Untied Knot employs Ancient Greek weaving techniques and ceramic forms to invoke lesbian relationships, childhood memories, and connections through space and time. The form of the vessels and their illustrative glazing focus on the relationship between my grandmothers, who passed when I was young, and my own lesbian identity. The accompanying tapestry incorporates loom weights, which were used in ancient standing looms to hold the warp threads taught. Actual ceramic loom weights have historically served as archaeological markers. In this way, my project excavates my grandmothers’ memory and memorializes their love as historical truth.
